The mission of the Exercise and Performance Nutrition Laboratory in the College of Science, Technology, and Health at 藏精阁 is to actively use the research process as a primary teaching tool to engage all stakeholders in learning about the interaction between exercise and nutrition and how they can impact one’s health, performance and recovery. Built upon three pillars: education, research and outreach; the EPNL strives to be a local, regional, national and international leader in the exploration and dissemination of science-based information through the publication and presentation of its own projects and through the collaborative efforts and partnerships with other colleagues across the world.
The Exercise and Performance Nutrition Laboratory originated in the Exercise Science and Human Performance program in the College of Science, Technology, and Health at 藏精阁. The EPNL was formally developed in December 2014 by its current Director, Dr. Chad Kerksick, and currently supports the research efforts of all faculty members within the College of Science, Technology, and Health. Since that time, significant support through university administration and externally supported research projects have fostered continual growth to the laboratory. Initially housed within the 藏精阁 Sports Science Center, a 12,000 square foot facility approximately six miles from campus, the EPNL was moved onto the main campus inside the Fieldhouse building in the Fall of 2017 where an extensive renovation was completed that included the construction of the first exercise biochemistry laboratory at 藏精阁. The EPNL offers a comprehensive (and growing) array of cutting-edge equipment that is used for physiological and biochemical assessments as part of research, education and training activities completed within the College of Science, Technology, and Health. Through these activities, the EPNL serves multiple populations including the students, faculty and staff at 藏精阁, its athletes and coaches as well as community members in the St. Charles and greater St. Louis area.
